Google says that liquor stores are called "spirits" because of ancient alchemy, where distillers believed that the vapor released during distillation was the "essence" or "soul" of the plant. This process concentrates the alcohol, separating the pure part from the original liquid.
At first, I didn't understand and was taken aback to see "spirits" in liquor stores.
It's not so crazy. For millennia, alcoholic beverages, tobacco (among other substances) have been used as companions and spiritual stimulants, promoting clarity and awareness. Although their uses have changed considerably today, this ancient tradition remains relevant (along with its wisdom).

Google dice que: A las licorerías se les llama "spirits" (bebidas espirituosas) debido a la alquimia antigua, donde los destiladores creían que el vapor liberado durante la destilación era la "esencia" o el "alma" (espíritu) de la planta. Este proceso concentra el alcohol, separando la parte pura del líquido original.
Al inicio no entendía y me descoloco ver “spirits” en las licorerías.
No es tan loco
Milenariamente las bebidas alcoolicas, el tabaco (entre otras sustancias) se vienen usando cómo acompañantes y estimuladores espirituales, claridad y toma de conciencia. Aunque en la actualidad sus usos han variado sobremanera, esta tradición antiquísima sigue vigente (junto con su sabiduría).
