2014-2023
In the middle of a perverse chaos I appear a white frame, the border of my personal space. Inside a space for my Manifestation.
The Marcos Blancos Series began in 2014 when I recovered my memory of the history of childhood sexual abuse. This event was very traumatic since it involved making body, emotion and mind parts of me that I did not know, denied. At the same time, this episode allowed me to reconnect with my present and observe how now, as an adult, I did not register the alarms and lacked the tools to deal with violent situations.
As I felt that my life was falling apart, I found support, including psychological therapies with multiple approaches, alternative disciplines, traditional and holistic doctors. Art, which I had abandoned years ago, is once again part of my life not only as a staff, but as a sword and vital breath.
Knitting, embroidering, painting, drawing, any technique was good for me to materialize my overwhelming feelings. Among the many terrible things that I manifested in my work, the Serie Marcos Blancos is sensitive, beautiful and powerful. That’s how I feel with her. Because while I was recognizing the terrible parts of my personal history, I was also recognizing the beautiful.
Looking back I feel that before joining my memories I was very far from myself, neither ugly nor beautiful, a constant ghostly discomfort. When I decided to take my story I became art.
Almost no record remained of the Marcos Blancos Exhibition. The recording was made with a cell phone turned off, few photos were taken and those that came out were mostly blurry.
My loved ones shared with me that they were too moved to remember to take photos. And that is a great compliment, because what I shared on this occasion was a very hard and moving part of my story.
This series no longer exists as such, its parts were sold or given away. There are photos of the works that made it up but that, ironically, came out “without” the white frame. Works that are now part of other lives, transmuted as I did.
Take what is from ourselves and do something with it. Become our greatest work.
I am not going to say that “thanks to what happened to me” I am the woman I am today. I like myself, I honor myself more and more, but this is not thanks to fate or shitty situations, it is because of what I did with it. Farmer, artisan, artist of existence. I became art out of the drive to survive -to today be art out of the drive to exist-..
This was my first “formal show,” since I looked for a place, made invitations, had music to accompany it, and celebrated with a toast. I had other artistic presentations before but I rarely invited anybody. This time I took myself seriously. In this series MB I express the place, the value and the respect that I gave myself throughout those years.
At the inauguration I was thinking of speaking a few words and instead an existential expressive performance came out. There was no record either, but it doesn’t matter, because I know that it happened.
