In this demonstration from the citizens of United States, I see different people from many classes coming together, forming new ties of kinship, facing a hegemonic power today represented by its current president of 2025.
I see a people I thought was dormant as a people... "people" as a Latin American concept: the popular, the working class, the children of immigrants, the majority, the minorities, the excluded. All those who do not identify in one or more ways with what is considered the "norm."
A country, whose dominant discourse preaches capitalist hegemony and solid identity suddenly descends into CHAOS. Its streets scream, debates erupt, THE PARTICULAR IDEA EXISTS. "Personal narratives" appear, disrupting and questioning the "common narrative"—which supposedly encompasses everything.
I was so happy when I found out I could attend this self-organized march organized by the American people. "Now I can," I thought, "now I really feel I have something to do with these people." I had let myself be guided only by Western missionary films and speeches, I was filled with prejudices about the United States, and I saw this. Something that had nothing to do with consumption, commodities, and war; this social protest, which I call SOCIAL POWER, I relate to the impulse of beings to "want to exist in their particularities."
Clearly, I still have a lot to learn about this country; this is just the beginning. So, let's break down prejudices and let ourselves be surprised.
